Briefing on RUU 355 for Non-Muslim ministers

Briefing on RUU 355 for Non-Muslim ministers

PRIME Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will brief non-Muslims ministers on the amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (RUU 355) in near future.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the briefing is intended as a preparation before RUU 355 is tabled in Dewan Rakyat next month.

"To this day, I only know the contents of the proposed amendments tabled by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, but not very clear on the proposed amendments that will be brought by the government.

"We, the non-Muslim ministers will attend the briefing to understand clearly the contents of RUU 355. If the amendment is against the Federal Constitution, we will submit a protest," said Joseph to Sin Chew Jit Poh.

Dewan Rakyat will sit for 20 days from March 6 until April 6.

Previously, Marang MP, Abdul Hadi, tabled the private Bill twice, but it was not debated.

Meanwhile, another Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan also said, for the moment the Cabinet has not yet decide which minister would table RUU 355 in Parliament, it is between Datuk Seri Jamil Khir or Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The non-Muslims ministers openly expressed their protest against RUU 355 if it went against the Federal Constitution.

Heads of BN component parties have explained that although the government has taken over the bill, they will oppose if it is not in accordance with the Federal Constitution
